The Sforza castle Milan hosts several museums.

PIETÀ RONDANINI MICHELANGELO MUSEUM

The unfinished masterpiece by Michelangelo has been given a new home in an exclusive location: the old Spanish Hospital. This space, in the Cortile delle Armi (Arms Courtyard) of the Sforza Castle Milan, was recently renovated and fitted by Michele De Lucchi to exhibit the Pietà. The piece is unique in the context of sixteenth century sculpture.

MUSEUM OF ANCIENT ART

Sforza Castle MilanThe Museum of Ancient Art hosts masterpieces from the early Christian to the sixteenth century, between the rooms of the museum are the Sala del Gonfalone, the Cappella Ducale e the Sala delle Asse painted by Leonardo da Vinci. At the end of the exposition you’ll find examples of Lombard sculpture of the sixteenth century

 

MUSEUM OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

The Museum hosts a large number of European and non-European musical instruments. Visitors may admire instruments of the Cremona and Milan schools of violin-making and rare Italian and European keyboards from the 16th to 20th centuries. There are keyboards, stringed instruments, stringed, wind, and ethnographic instruments. The collection was expanded in 2000 with the donation of Antonio Monzino, Milan luthier.

The Museum hosts a collection of furniture from the 15th to the 20th centuries, wooden sculptures, ceramics, magnificent precious works, ancient weapons and armatures and the extraordinary Trivulzio Tapestries of the months.

 

MUSEUM OF PREHISTORY AND PROTOHISTORY One of the earliest collections of the Archaeological Museum providing an overview of the cultures of the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages above all in the Po Valley.

 

EGYPTIAN MUSEUM A collection of international importance comprising mummies, sculptures, portraits of the pharaohs, household items and those used to worship the dead, and papyri.

PICTURE GALLERY The gallery hosts painting masterpieces from the 14th to the 18th centuries, with works by Mantegna, Foppa, Lotto through to Canaletto. A highlight is the remarkable hall dedicated to Renaissance paintings from Lombardia.
